Review: The Radio Buzzkills / Black Russians - Mutually Assured Destruction

The Radio Buzzkills are a St.Louis based pop-punk formed in 2016. The Radio Buzzkills released their second full length album earlier this year. Mutually Assured Destruction is a 7” record shared with the Black Russians. The Black Russians are a mysterious Russian punk rock band. This is a concept split, The Radio Buzzkills represent Democracy on their side of the record. “You’re My Chernobyl” talks about breaking down the Berlin Wall in the name I’d love and “Can’t Stop the Western Bloc” acts as an American hockey anthem dedicated to the 1980 miracle on ice. The Black Russia’s proudly sport a pro Communism agenda.

Mutually Assured Destruction is comprised of 5 incredible tracks where they use genres, such as Rock. The album opens with groovy composition called You're My Chernobyl which, in my opinion, is a great choice for the album opener. Starting with the guitars, personally for me it brings vibes of rock bands of the past century. The composition is followed by song titled Can't Stop The Western Bloc - upbeat tune where the band plays catchy guitars, which make this song much more interesting. Tracks We'd Have A Riot Doing Krokodil, as well as Ain't Putin Up With You - are short but energetic tracks which starts with electric guitars and drums: they literally makes us feel the whole mood of the album. Catchy melodies will definitely stay in head for a long time. The 4th song on the record, Communist Rock, impressed me and became one of my favorites from the album: it starts with guitars and then develops in rock track which will make you even sing along.

To sum up, everything in Mutually Assured Destruction comes together in a stream of consciousness style. This is unforgettable journey into the mix of rock music and meaningful lines in one piece.
